Geneva, IL December 16, 2011 – The students of Mansio Mens Montessori decorated and delivered holiday cookies to Lazarus House in St. Charles to support the homeless. Lazarus House serves persons in need connected to St. Charles, Geneva, Batavia and western rural Kane County.
Dr. Maria Montessori opened her Children’s House in the slums of Rome in 1907 to serve impoverished children who wandered the streets while their parents worked. Both Montessori and Lazarus House programs are philosophically dedicated to the community, to families and to children.
Mansio Mens Montessori families baked cookies, which were decorated by students. The cookies were delivered on Wednesday, December 14th by the Kindergarten class, Janet Shanahan, Managing Director of Mansio Mens Montessori and teachers Terri Kraft and Melanie Scawinski.
“Each and every child in Mansio Mens Montessori helped decorate the 200 cookies, which helped spread Holiday cheer to those in need,” stated Janet Shanahan. Kindergarten teacher Terri Kraft commented "It was priceless when one of my kindergarteners said...."I'm so happy to have helped to give them something sweet that they wouldn't have had....because they don't have a home!" I really think they GOT it!"

Geneva, IL, December 16, 2010 – The families of Mansio Mens Montessori support families in need in Kane County through the Adopt-A-Family program sponsored by the Salvation Army. Each of the classrooms sponsored a family’s ‘wish list’ of specific items and their children’s ‘hopes and dreams’ items, including clothing, toys and other everyday items.
Gift items were delivered December 10th, 2010 to the Salvation Army - St. Charles for four ‘adopted’ families. Ms. Janet Shanahan, Managing Director of Mansio Mens Montessori, stated, “For the past few years, Mansio Mens has participated in the Angel Tree Program. This year, we are participating in the Adopt-A-Family Program instead. This allows families in need to receive some much needed items in addition to the kids’ ‘hopes and dreams’ items.”
The Adopt-A-Family Program sponsored by the Salvation Army shares the same spirit as Montessori education. Dr. Maria Montessori opened her Children’s House in the slums of Rome in 1907 to serve impoverished children who wandered the streets while their parents worked. Both programs are philosophically dedicated to the community, to the family and to the individual child. Mansio Mens provides an atmosphere in which a child's mind, body and spirit can flourish.

Geneva, IL, August 5, 2010 - Mansio Mens Montessori hosted Jim Nesci and his entourage of “Cold Blooded Creatures” on Wednesday, August 4th, 2010. Mansio Mens sponsored the event to support ‘conservation through education.’ The entertaining and educational reptile program that Mr. Nesci has presented for over 30 years lasted approximately one hour. “Cold Blooded Creatures” featured 5 ambassadors from the reptile world, including alligators, snakes, a Monitor lizard, and Tank the tortoise. Mr. Nesci’s presentation included respect and safety for the animals (and participants), proper handling of reptiles, and reptile conservation and protection.
The presentation included Lucky, a North American alligator that was rescued from a nearby water sewage treatment plant. “This happens more often than you think,” stated Mr. Nesci. In 1996, he was a 12-inch yearling when he was adopted by Jim. Today, Lucky weighs about 35 pounds and is 5 feet long. Janet Shanahan, Directress of Mansio Mens Montessori, states, “A hands-on presentation such as “Cold Blooded Creatures” was a wonderful opportunity for children to explore the world of reptiles.”

Geneva, IL, April 28, 2010 – Mayor Kevin R. Burns visited Mansio Mens Montessori in support of its 10th Annual Art Auction, which was held on Saturday, March 6, 2010. Mayor Burns fulfilled his pledge to bring donuts to the winners of a silent auction prize that included a ride to school in a Geneva Police Department vehicle.
Mansio Mens Montessori organizes the auction each year with the assistance of its staff and numerous volunteers. All proceeds from the event go to fund various educational and maintenance initiatives for the school. The primary goal of this year’s event was to update child-sized furniture and to purchase a new dishwasher, which sorely needed replacement, and to continue the pursuit of “go green lighting” for the entire building. Auction items were collected from families of children that attend Mansio Mens, the City of Geneva, local businesses, and associates of families involved with Mansio Mens Montessori.
