ENRICHMENT

Foreign Language

During the vital first six years of life, the absorbent minds of children are able to learn a second language far more easily than at any other time in their life. At this age, they have an uncanny ability to grasp the complexities of language-and not just one language! They carry this "ear for language" with them for the rest of their lives.

For this reason, children at Mansio Mens receive Spanish instruction as part of their school week. Specially trained teachers introduce the language through music, games and even artwork, making the learning of language fun and appealing.

Spanish
Mansio Mens is delighted to also offer upbeat, enjoyable Spanish instruction with Michelle Meister. Michelle comes once a week and invites the children to participate in songs, games and language presentations.

Music

Just as children's minds are particularly open to learning language and beginning concepts in their first six years, they also have an amazing ability to grasp music. In addition to being a part of daily life at Mansio Mens, music is also formally introduced to the children through a specially trained instructor, Linida Bulifant, who meets with each class one morning a week. During this time, the children enjoy a variety of songs as well as the opportunity to experiment with instruments.

Yoga
Yoga at Mansio Mens Montessori School is a non-competitive practice that addresses the needs of the ‘whole child’ and reinforces the brain/body connection. In addition to offering a means of exercising the physical body through the practice of Asana, or postures, Yoga is an invaluable tool for finding the calmness necessary to cope with the stresses of everyday life, for developing a healthy mental outlook and for stimulating creative thought and intellectual growth. Each playful and interactive Yoga practice focuses on the cultivation of concentration, calmness and relaxation. By utilizing games, storytelling, music and creative play along with traditional Yoga postures and techniques, the intention is to create a Yoga that is both child-friendly and fun. Through regular Yoga practice, children begin to develop enhanced flexibility, strength, coordination and body awareness as well as cultivating a necessary state of mindfulness - an awareness of self – that translates to outward self-confidence and ultimately, to self-discipline.

Summers at Mansio Mens

Mansio Mens is a year-round school for children. During the summer months, we take advantage of the learning opportunities that good weather offers via nature hikes and field trips.
